Do Others Know You Changed?

Change is a process and doesn’t always come easy. When we grow and discover who we are it can be uncomfortable. However, we are not the only ones that need to adjust to our changes. Those around us may resist the changes we are making. When we change, the people in our lives can become confused. They are used to us being a certain way and they may be upset by the differences they are seeing in us. This is normal and with understanding and communication can usually be dealt with.

There are times when change will mean that what worked in the past for us no longer works. This includes relationships. Sometimes people change out of the old and into new type of relationships. It doesn’t mean that anyone did anything wrong, it simply means that the people in the relationship have grown in different directions. This can be very painful and needs to be handled with love and understanding.

Not everyone will support us in our changing. There are those who are invested in us staying the same. Be aware of this and know that you may not always get the support that you are looking for. Also be willing to give the same understanding and kindness to the people in your life that are struggling with your change as you would like to receive from them.

Be willing to let those that are important to you know that you are changing and how that will affect not only you but also your relationship with them. Let them know how much they mean to you. People deal better with change when they know how it will affect them.

Change is what happens when we are living. We will not be the same person tomorrow that we are today. Change can take some getting used to and needs to be treated with love and understanding.

Know that you are not the only one experiencing the changes that you are making. The people in your life are being affected also. Be willing to give them the time and space they need to integrate your changes into their perception of who you are. Know they may never totally understand or accept the changes that you make. They have that right.
